Baseball!

Last night we went to the A's game with a bunch of our friends. It was fun, and the A's actually won! They haven't done very well this season, but it's still a blast to go to the games. After the games, they had a great fireworks show! Enjoy the pictures!

Don't you just love it?

I am so loving this cooler weather. Makes me anxious for fall to come. I love autumn. It's my favorite season of all! I'm looking forward to candles lit, fires in the fireplace and chilly nights!

In two weeks, we'll be heading to Capitola for our annual family vacation there, and we can't wait! The kids and I have been busy getting our list together of stuff to take, they have their favorite foods that we always have while we are there. S'mores, jiffy pop (the popcorn in the little pan that you cook on the stove), morning pancakes and of course for dinner..a big pizza from "Pizza My Heart!"

Nothing much else is new, this is basically a post about nothing in particular. :)

Remembering 9/11

Today is the 7th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11/01...a day I'll never forget. Lizzy was only 5 months old, and I remember sitting and holding her all day long, watching TV...ALL DAY LONG. May we never forget...

Home schooling and such

We're in the thick of our second week of home schooling and things are going great! So far we are enjoying our curriculum choices...here are a few of our favorites and a glimpse into a few of the subjects we're covering this year:

Apologia Science - Lizzy is using the Botany course and we're enjoying learning about plants. Dan is using Zoology 1; all about birds and insects! Tim is using Biology, and we did our first microscope experiment yesterday, viewing cheek cells! And lastly, Nathan is using Apologia Physics. That's above my expertise, so he can teach ME about it. :)

Bob Jones History - we're using Bob Jones history across the board this year. My favorite of the kids' books is Tim's 9th grade Geography. I'm learning right along with him all of the different types of maps and their names. Pretty fun!

Teaching Textbooks Math - this year we're trying a new math program, both for Nathan and for Dan. Dan is using the computer mostly for his math, and so far it's been a great thing for him. He actually said the other day, that he LIKES math! Never thought I'd hear those words from him. :) Lizzy is using my old favorite, Horizons math and Tim is using Jacobs Geometry.

So, there you have just a few of our subjects...I'll share a few more next time. :) Since this pretty much consumes my life during most of the year, it's foremost on my mind right now. And, speaking of school work...I probably have more than needs to be corrected. Ta ta for now!

Happy Labor Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying a restful day today, on Labor Day! A little history on the day, from How Stuff Works!

"For a lot of people, Labor Day means two things: a day off and the end of summer. But why is it called
Labor Day? Labor Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to working men and women. It has been celebrated as a national holiday in the United States and Canada since 1894.

Labor unions themselves celebrated the first labor days in the United States, although there's some speculation as to exactly who came up with the idea. Most historians credit Peter McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, with the original idea of a day for workers to show their solidarity. Others credit Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J.

The first Labor Day parade occurred Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City. The workers' unions chose the first Monday in September because it was halfway between Independence Day and Thanksgiving. The idea spread across the country, and some states designated Labor Day as a holiday before the federal holiday was created.

President Grover Cleveland signed a law designating the first Monday in September as Labor Day nationwide."
