Knott's Berry Farm

So yesterday we went to Knott's Berry Farm! We hadn't been there in a long time! It was fun, and I think we went on all of the rides that we wanted to go on (or at least some of us got to go on every ride). We found that it's a little difficult with the varied ages of our children, so not everyone can go on every ride. But, that's okay...it was fun anyway! Enjoy the pictures!

If at first you don't succeed....

...try try again! And that's what Nathan and Tim will be doing in November. Trying again.

This past Saturday they took their first Black Belt test in San Jose. They've been preparing for this test for a long time, and were very excited and anxious to get their Black Belts. However, after a very long and rigorous day, neither of them passed the test. In fact, out of the 20 people who tested, only 6 passed...and all 6 were taking the test for the second time.

Anything worth having, takes hard work and determination. And in a way, we are glad that the test is hard! So, they will get their second opportunity in November. Thanks to those of you who prayed for them! :o)

A Useful Link...from my past!

I ran across this link today - Cookin Stuff - from a store that I used to work at when I was in high school and college! This particular branch is the only one open now, but there used to be two stores owned and operated by the same family that still owns this branch. It's an all inclusive cookware store...their motto? "If we don't have it, you don't need it!"

They now have online ordering, so if you're ever in need of some cooking gadget that you can't find anywhere, chances are, Cookin Stuff may have it!

I worked for Cookin Stuff for 4 or 5 years, and still keep in touch with many of the friends I met while working there!

Swimming Lessons

Dan and Lizzy have been in swimming lessons for the past two weeks, and both did a great job! Here are a few pictures from their time in the pool.

Just stuff....

The last two days have been busy. First of all, I've been painting our kitchen! Last night I did the ceiling and today the walls. The color is called 'honey' but it's sort of a warm, dijon mustard color. It looks nice, and the ceiling is white.

I like to paint. It's a lot of work, especially the prep work, but it's a satisfying task b/c you can see the change immediately! And, this was one of the things on my summer "to do list" so I'm glad to actually get it done!

Lizzy has been sick today too, with the stomach flu. She came down with that last night, and was sick all day. She was better tonight, but very lethargic. She has to miss her swimming lesson today, which was a bummer. Maybe she'll feel better to go tomorrow.

Nothing much else is new, other than Nathan and Tim gearing up for their Black Belt test this Saturday!

Have a good Wednesday!

Cooler...how nice!

Yes, it's cooler today!! Finally we have our windows open and it's not even 90 degrees yet at noon!

We had a good week, with swimming lessons for Dan and Lizzy (they are doing great!) and various other activities. Dan is learning how to swim different strokes in his class. He's particularly good at the 'butterfly' stroke and accompanying dolphin kick. Lizzy is learning freestyle stroke, glides and how to float on her tummy and back. They are both enjoying their lessons, and then promptly come home and spend the rest of the day in our pool. :)

Today is a quiet, stay at home day. I have had too few of those lately. We don't have any plans for tonight either, which is a nice treat. We're going to stay in, eat pizza with the kids and watch a movie. Sounds good!

By the way, today is 7/11...and 7-11 stores are giving away FREE 7.11oz Slurpees!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sweltering...

Yep, it's hot. Yesterday on our van thermometer we actually saw 114 degrees!!! I heard that it's supposed to be even hotter today, but I can't imagine how that could be!

Nothing much is new...Dan and Lizzy are taking swimming lessons; they are enjoying that. Dan is in one of the more advanced classes and is learning how to actually swim laps! Yesterday I watched him 'dolphin kick' all the way across the pool! Lizzy is finally comfortable enough in the water to do whatever is asked of her. I think having our own little pool has helped them both. And they spent several hours in our pool yesterday afternoon to stay cool!

Monday night we went to the A's game. Started out rather pathetic, but ended well...they won 4-3! It was cooler in Oakland too, although when we were driving home at 10pm it was still 90 degrees outside! In the pictures above, you can see how excited Lizzy was at the end of the game. She almost fell asleep!

Today is another busy day, with Bible study, swimming lessons, gymnastics and prayer meeting! Hope everyone stays cool!!

A Great Day!!

We had a really fun day today, celebrating the 4th of July with friends! The weather was perfect...beautiful blue sky and a breezy 85 degrees. We had a great time relaxing, eating good food, launching rockets, having water gun fights and water balloon tosses. Everyone got wet, to one degree or another (including ME, thanks to Nathan totally soaking me with a big water gun!) I think Lizzy won the prize in our family for being the most wet; she was soaked to the skin.

The whole party - thank you Bolles family for having us over! :)

Some of the "water gun warriors" taking a break from their escapades to watch Mr. Bolles fly his cool kite!

And the water balloon toss! Nathan and Lizzy did pretty well, but the winners were Tim and Kyle!

~We are thankful to live in this country, where we have many freedoms that we take for granted every day. May God continue to bless America...the land of the free and the home of the brave!
